What should beginners research first in War Thunder?

I'm relatively new to War Thunder and already feel like I'm researching everything except the stuff I actually need lol.

Should I focus on one vehicle line, unlock several different vehicles, or spend more time upgrading the crew? I keep seeing people recommend different things and I'm not sure what's best for someone who isn't particularly good yet.

Also, is it normal to feel completely useless when you first move into a higher rank?

See the War Thunder beginner guide, choosing your next vehicle, and crew skills explained.

Pick a nation and learn its vehicles first. Jumping between five different trees makes progression feel painfully slow.

Crew skills matter too, especially once you understand what each skill actually does. Don't blindly spend everything without checking.

ngl the biggest beginner mistake is thinking a higher BR automatically means you're better. Sometimes you just unlock a vehicle you don't know how to use.

Exactly. Learn positioning and range estimation. A stock vehicle can feel awful, but rushing into every fight makes it worse.

Which nation are you playing? The advice can change quite a bit depending on whether you're mostly interested in tanks or aircraft.

That's a good point. I'd also suggest sticking with a lineup that makes sense rather than bringing one high-BR vehicle and several vehicles that can't compete at that rating.
